Yes it's cheap film, no i wasn't expecting much, just wondering if this is something I caused or the folks over at shanghai are known for? debris in my developer? other user error? it's not on every frame so i don't believe it's the camera. at least it was a test roll

😕

is it 35mm? and are all the shots normal orientation? I ask because shot 1 the scratches are all about 45º clockwise, shot 2 are straight up, and shot 3 are maybe 15-20º clockwise. That makes it unlikely to be camera scratches--those woud all tend to be at the same orientation. I'd guess manufacturing defect, but there could be other causes.

Yes all correct orientation. As long as it doesnt look like a developing issue i am not worried, i think it should be attributed to poor handing when i was loading (i did have to restart loading this reel in the bag 😅) or cheap shanghai film manufacturing, it was only 3-4$ a roll on ebay!

Those look at lot like marks I got on the one roll of GP3 220 I've processed so far. I've got a second roll loaded up in my RB67 220 back (the first was in an RH20), hopefully the slightly newer, previously tested Mamiya back will be easier on the film (and I'll get a reel that likes 220 on the first try instead of having to swap reels after four or five tries to get the film to go in more than one turn).

Good to know. I have a problem with every gp3 roll i use. the adhesive seal at the end of the roll always comes off and is floating around inside when i open the camera

They seem to have different QC issues over time. Fingerprints on the film (at least on the 220, suggesting it is or at least was hand rolled), factory scratches, lack of film start tape (or tape at the tail instead), bad seal strips. If they can ever get it really right, though, without pushing the price into Kodak/Ilford territory, they'll have a real winner -- when it works right, it's great stuff.

Mind you Donald, without wishing to seem to be a "wise guy" the above quote would apply to every low priced but frequently faulty article in the market place

I'm well aware. I own and use tools from Harbor Freight, and I've seen their quality over the past few years begin to exceed that of (slowly failing) generations-old top brands like Craftsman. It's all about "can they get it right" without making it cost like Snap-On or Hilti.

My point is that their film manufacturing seems good, they need to improve the confectioning process -- which it would seem is much easier to fix than and emulsion or coating issue.
