I’ve been trying to get in touch with Mr. Hama for about a month now to check on the status of a camera repair on a Yashica YK. But I have been unable to connect with him via email or phone. I’m concerned not only for my order but for Mr. Hama as well. Has anyone here been in contact with him in the last couple of weeks, or anyone know why he may be incommunicado? He’s always been very reachable in the past. I hope all is ok with him.

It's not out of character for him to be non-responsive for periods. But yeah, he's getting long in the tooth too. Wish I had known about this last week; I was just in his neighborhood on a business trip. Could've done a drive by...

I'll be only a few miles from his house tomorrow though I'm not entirely comfortable dropping by unnanounced.

I seem to remember reading in another forum somewhere that he sometimes takes a holiday overseas for some time. If I can't reach him by mail or phone after the holidays, I may drive down that way myself - I'm 3 hours from Atlanta. I've googled to see if there may be some news on the internet about him but nothing comes up. Regardless of what has happened, he has my Yashica YK and $100 of my dollars, so I'd at least like to recover the repaired camera, or the camera and cash if unrepaired, if he's left the business or is otherwise indisposed.

If you do hear back from him please post an update. I have a Yashica Mat and another Lynx I was going to send his way.

I’ve previously posted about being unable to get a response from Mr. Hama since this past summer. I had sent him an Olympus Pen half-frame for repair in March or thereabouts; it was returned to me without being fully repaired. He eventually responded to my request to return it, so I did, in early May IIRC. Since then, radio silence — no updates, no responses to my emails. At the start of my dealing with him he’d indicated a family issue had been taking his time but never mentioned it again thereafter even after I’d wished him well dealing with that situation. So I’m in the dark as to what his present status is, but I do wish he would take a few minutes to let me — let all of us — know what’s going on. And yes, I’d like my camera back, and a partial refund for the items he didn’t repair the first time around.

Updating my own prior post above: I wrote to Mark Hama, and this time he responded, saying that he had located needed parts to make the repair, and that he needed some more time — to which I immediately agreed. So it appears that Mark is still providing repair services. Good to know that he’s OK.

Thanks for the update, Trask! I’m certainly happy for that news! Maybe I’ll be seeing my YK back soon.

He may just be covered up with so much work with the up-tick of interest in film and users getting their film cameras repaired/refurbed.

An update - I did hear from Mr. Hama today and the delay of the repair on my Yashica 35 YK is the availability of parts to repair the rangefinder. These cameras are not that common, so I will have to be a bit more patient.

he had some sort of family emergency a month or so ago which backed him up.

Single guys who we all depend on should simply not have outside lives. Most inconsiderate of Mr. Hama to let life intrude on our needs, do you not think?

He sent my 'Mat back, quite lovely. I think he put an entire new taking lens in it...
