american socialite & amateur photographer "clover " adams is an interesting story . she was one of the earliest portrait photographers . her photographs consisted of formal & informal portraits of politicians , family , friends , family pets , still lifes of interior & exterior locales & the adams family homes in quincy & beverly farms , massachusetts . she left behind a great deal of information about her photography , her work was widely admired although her husband apparently would not allow her to become a professional photographer & discouraged any publication of her photographs . on a sunday in early december 1885 she swallowed potassium cyanide which she used in developing photographs . i read a biography about her titled " clover adams : a gilded & heartbreaking life " certainly a fascinating read .
