Mamiya RZ67 PRO II Polaroid option?

I finally got my Mamiya RZ67 PRO II 2 weeks ago, nice camera. I want to get a Polaroid back and it looks like there are couple of them and I can't get the difference. I believe there's one manufactured by Mamiya and other by Polaroid. One is 6x6 cm and one is 7.4x7.4 cm I think? Also there's the 4x5 one which I couldn't find.

So here's what I want to ask, what's the difference between these backs? Can you still find the 4x5 back (I think it's called Quadra)? I know that these backs can use fuji fp-100 but can you have positive paper in the back instead?

I've never seen a 6x6 version.

But, I've read that the one with the holder on the back is the best. That's what I got and have no complaints.

the quadra back is basically a Polaroid 545 back attached to a RZ67 back, as I recall. Fairly rare, and not all that useful.

I do wonder if there's a way to convert the Quadra for 4x5 film holders. I would find it really handy to be able to shoot sheet film from my Mamiya for tests, dupes, and so on… I have a Cambo 4x5 but still… could be kind of handy.

Just get the standard Mamiya one...I recall it giving you a large image area...used it tons for
665 BW pos/neg...was a large square format. FP 100 fits it fine.

Thanks. I'd prefer something scanned with better resolution, but at this size it looks much better that I expected. The photos with dogs are not that good though (quality-wise of course).

Fp100c has about 15 lp/mm resolution in the print, perhaps more in the neg. Not sure about the B&W version. But ultimately, it's not the sort of film you would use when looking for highest resolution results.

re: sheet film - it would probably be easier to convert the Mamiya cut film adapter system to shoot sheet film in an RZ67. They have a graflok-style adapter plate and various cut film holders designed for 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 film (I have several but have never used them) for the RZ67, that could probably be modified to use 4x5 DDS holders easier than hacking up the Quadra back. Just a thought.

re: sheet film

I have been around to adjust 9x12 sheet film into a empty Polaroid cassette; clipping 5mm off > 8.5x12cm . film inside cass. > in Polaroid back. result: 7x7 high res neg.of your own choise. Lot of work (in the darkbag)for 7 cm2 profit .......??

As mentioned, not the film for the highest quality, but I have to say that that shot is pretty darn sharp.

... the recoverable negs are pretty nice (better than the prints, IMO). The images were 7x7.

The 4x5 FP-100C is discontinued (and outrageously expensive on eBay), so I wouldn't bother trying to find or adapt a 4x5 polaroid back.

I had a Polaroid-brand back for my RB67 that I didn't like; the back jammed constantly, which wasted the expensive film. It had to be cleaned frequently and zealously, and it was just a huge hassle. Maybe I had a dud, but I'd avoid a Polaroid-brand back and try a Mamiya-brand back if I went back to shooting FP-100C.
