Mamiya RZ67 Battery

I just received a used Mamiya RZ67 but it did not come with a battery. The manual says it takes a 4LR44 or 4SR44 battery. I don't not have the time to wait to order a battery online. Can I find this battery at places like Best Buy or Radio Shacks? When I search for these battery on their online store I get the results of a 6V (105mAh) battery. Is this the same kind of battery? Is there another type of battery that can be used for this camera? Thanks a lot.

The code 4SR44 means that this is a 1-piece battery electrically identical to 4 separate SR44 1.5 V silver oxide batteries, so if 4 individual batteries will fit into the holder, these would be fine. Kodak code is S76. There is also a battery which is like 2 SR44 together, I have one before me (lithium type), 3 V, Kodak code CR 1/3 N. These two types of battery fit lots of cameras so should be easier to find.

I just take the 'real' battery to Radio Shack and tell them I want the equivalent. They pick one off the shelf and hand it to me. I have a small drawer full of them for my Mamiya and my Bronicas. They both take the same type.

My Nikkormat ELs take the same IIRC.

The Radio Shack code is 23-266. It is a lithium battery...there has been some discussion about not using lithium in the RZ, but I have had no issues. A contact with MAC from a few years ago indicated that there was a flaw in some of the early RZ's that would give faulty readings if you were using a metering prism. AFAIK, that is the only issue with those batteries. They last a very long time and are cheaper than the photo source equivalent.

Thanks for the info Lopaka. I don't plan to use a metered prizm I don't think I will have any problems then.

This might sound dumb, but how do I turn it off? I don't see any on/off switches. I dont see anything about it in the manual, but it did mention turn the knob to the red dot to prevent accident battery drain from the button being pressed. Is that the off position?

The Mamiya RZ is off all the time until the shutter release button is partially depressed. Then the display in the prism lights up. Full depression activates the shutter. Release of the button turns the camera off.

On most other cameras there is a discrete on-off switch.

The batteries in the RZ last a loooong time. I get mine at Radio Shack too. The RZ has a small black ring around the shutter release. Turn it so that the white dot lines up with the red and the shutter will be locked (and so will the electronics). I keep my RZ in a Pelican case, and if I don't lock that ring the shutter can sometimes be depressed by the foam -- this turns on the electronics ... and the lights in the viewfinder.

Wanna imagine my surprise when I pulled out my camera one day and found I had a brand-new lithium battery that was suddenly dead?

You should be able to buy the 4lr44 at many drug stores too, I know you can get the lr44 there. Also you might try Walmart.

You can get the alkaline battery at many places, including Wal-Mart. The silver battery you'll find at a camera store or online.

The battery lasts a good while unless you have the metering prism and leave the meter on.

I buy batteries in bunches off the Ebay sellers. Prices for 10 with shipping are often cheaper then the locals wanted for 1.
