Hello,

I just bought a mamiya 7ii and noticed a problem with the 80mm: when attaching the lens to the body it malfunctions. It shows in the foucusing screen the 60mm and 80mm squares. The are not perfect but very thin lines but they are duplicated. The camera shuts and appears to work normally. I tried the 60mm and the 150mm lens and ot works fine. I tried the 80mm in another mamiya 7ii and it works well. Maybe the contacts on this particular mamiya are malfunctioning, right? I doubt the problems is in the lens. It is the body, is it possible to repair? Is it going to deteriorate? Thank you for your insigths!

I assume it's the contacts. Best bet for repairs if need be would be precicioncameraworks in Chicago. He seems to be the it guy for mamiya 7. He did a cla in my kit. Very reasonable.

You might try very gently cleaning the contacts on the lens and in the body with a soft cloth and isopropanol. Don't flood the camera, just dampen the cloth and wipe it on the contacts a few times. Don't scrub hard. Use at least 91% isopropanol (available in pharmacies in the US, I don't know about Portugal). DON'T use "rubbing alcohol", that has more water in it, as well as other stuff to make it smell nice.

Precision Camera Works has just moved to California, or is in the process of doing so.

Yes, it may simply be dirty contacts, but another safer way to clean them is to use a pencil eraser.

A pencil eraser is very effective, but is more abrasive and the possibility of damaging the contacts by wearing off the gold plating is higher. I do this myself, but one must be gentle. An isopropanol-wetted cloth is milder and should be tried first, if it works there's no need for stronger measures.

When the 65,80, or 150 are attached to the camera, it should automatically index the correct bright frame lines. If your 80mm is not bringing up the correct frame lines, this is strictly a mechanical issue. Your body needs servicing, specifically an adjustment of the rangefinder/bright frame assembly.
