I'm interested in this lens for portraits and general close-up work.
Has anyone here used one? Will it serve as a portrait lens?

I've had one of those for years, having bought it new.It certainly doubles up as an efective portrait lens and the macro work is top notch.
Bear in mind that as you go into macro territory there is a drop in exposure anywhere from 1/3 of a stop all the way to a full stop. And the contrast diminishes especially if you stop all the way down to f32.It is an extremely useful lens that nowadays can be gotten for maybe 1/4 or 1/5 of its original price. I hope you like it and enjoy it.
