making my 4x5 horseman monorail a 8x10

hi everyone,

at the moment I'm using a monorail camera by horseman 4x5. I want to start shooting 8x10 since all secundary conditions are allready there. Only difference will be the price.

I think it's possible to convert my monorail into a 8x10 by buying a 8x10 rear standard, and the right bellows. If so, I shoot be able to upgrade to 8x10 pretty cheap. Off course a new lens has to be bought but that's of later concern.

My question: is indeed all I need a 8x10 rear standard and good bellows?
Or am I overlooking something here? And secondly, where the h*ck am I gonna find this piece of equipment?

I converted my Horseman LE into a 5x7 camera. It worked pretty well EXCEPT:

The rear standard was quite a bit larger (duh) so something needed to be shifted in order to zero it out.
There was also a similar problem with the height.

So you lose some movement, but you do gain the format. It may be cheaper, easier to just buy an 8x10 Horseman (they don't seem to sell for all that much) and swap parts if you need to. You gotta love the interchangeability!

Just from watching Horseman stuff on e-bay, I agree that just getting the rear standard and bellows may cost as much as the whole camera.

Ah, I DID missed a point, the front standard needs rise to 'neutralize' the bigger rear standard. Well, lets wiat for a 8x10 on ebay then, they don;t come along that often...

If you tilt the rail upwards and use forward tilt on both the back and front you will retain full use of the rise and fall of the existing 5 x 4 front standard.
