Yes it's that. Explained in the manual :
The blank plate (32) is designed for making notes concerning the kind of negative material in the camera, e.g. DLC = daylight color film, or ISS 21/10, etc. Only use blunt writing material (a match or something similar), and no scratching points. To extinguish the writing, turn the knob (33).

Thank you! That is the first device I got to know of that uses that technique other than as children gadget, or as gadget as such.
Maybe even those plain boads had been used outside the children world, but I did not realize that back then.

(Well, I did not search for the manual, as I thought it would not exist, though I knew that some samples of that model left the plant before it was cancelled prematurely.)

If a sample of this scarce model is in Apug hands, it would be interesting to learn how that camera handles.
(But likely it rather would be doomed ass shelf-queen inside some cabinet.)

One of these came up on Goodwill just a couple of weeks back. Having an Exakta jones, I was very interested. I just wasn't $456 (plus tax, S&H) interested. That money (and storage space) went to a camera that will actually get some use.
