I'm all excited!!!!

In a week when many of us have been worrying about the future avaliability of our favourite films Maco have quietly slipped out a new 127 film, increasing my choice of films by 50%

MacoColor 200. The actual stock is probably nothing new, but it's the first C41 127 film has been available since the big player dropped it 10 years or so ago.

It completes their range with UP100 (b&W - probably rebadged Efke), and MacoChrome E6.

Unfortunatly the price is a bit steep, but it's available from the usual places (retro, photoimpex etc).

It's reasuring to know that as the big players tell us they don't want our money, smaller companies are stepping in, and providing the services we want.

Go and dust of that baby Rollei, Komaflex, Yashica, or Exacta and shoot some 127. It's the most fun format you can get!

I gotta get me some....

And those baby-rolleis too!
I wish I had one though

There is a negative and a slide film from the Maco website:

MACOCHROME UCR 100: Color reversal film 127

MACOCOLOR UCN 200: Color negative film 127

Don´t forget the size127 Efke R100... and Macos bw films are in fact Efke emulsions.

The 127 slide film is available for at least 3 years now.

That's great news !

I'm a proud owner of seven 4x4 cameras and I keep continue to collect them... It's a bit difficult in France to find 127 films, but each year in the begining of June, we have the Bievres photo market where there's a lot of foreign sellers, among which FotoImpex from Berlin who sells all Maco and Efke films, with the economy of shipping. I use to keep a stock in my fridge for all the year.

My other difficult is about processing 127 colour films, I still haven't found any lab who accept to treat 127 films, so I have to use a Jobo processor. It requires to be very carefully and it's more expensive when you don't use it a lot.

I keep saying I don't collect them, but I guess I do.

OK - I collect them, but the expensive ones are for USING. I've currently got 6 TLR's (3 Yashica, Rollei, Sawyers, and Haco), 2 SLR's (Komaflex,Exacta), and 30 or so fun cameras.

The Komaflex has been seeing the most action recently - mainly because it works more ergonomically with flash: It's hard to focus the baby tlr's when they have a large flash attatched. Add in the aux lenses, and the Koma forms more of a system.

On the other hand the Rollei is just perfect as it is - doesn't really need any accessories. The TLR's a re definaly smoother and more fun to use provided you accept them as they are. I've got a particular soft spot for the Y44a, which is an awesome camera for the price you can get it for. My Exacta is still away for repair :-( but I'm REALLY excited about getting out with it.

I do own a 35mm, but I can honestly say I only put 2 films through it. I've got access to good 120 kit, but it's just not as convenient. 127 is a perfect inbetween format - it feels like 120 in terms of the way the cameras work, but it's compact and light, rather than large and clunky. I can literally put a tlr in my jacket pocket. A 1930's foth derby is smaller than a modern digicam.

I mainly shoot b&w, dev at home - Efke looks awesome in this format. The local lab has done colour for me in the past, but this time I'm deving myself (something new to try). It should be pretty cheap, provided I collect a batch of 6 or so films together before I mix up the chemistry.

I didn't know the existence of that Exakta 127 SLR. Do you have links to informations and pictures of that camera ? I'm totally interested.

It's not that thread's purpose, so you can look in the "Introduce yourself" forum my (there was a url link here which no longer exists), you'll see my camera list, including my 127's.

By the way, your website about 127 is a great initiative and I'd be glad if I could help to enrich it.
