Hello I have a beat up contax Rx. I haven't used the camera in over a year because the aperture coupler in the body is worn out and doesn't engage with the lense that I mount. So that means twisting the f stop ring on the lens does nothing to the body. The body doesn't register the change.

Now if I were to install a m42 adaptor would this matter at all ? I know I'd be shooting stopped down, either from preselect or from the adaptor.

Your thoughts ?

If your M42 lens has an A/M switch then you will be able to stop the lens down manually. If the M42 lens does not have an A/M switch then you will only be able to shoot wide open.
