I'm taking part in an exhibition with fellow tutors from Lux Darkroom at the Doomed Gallery, 65-67 Ridley Road, London, E8 2NP. (Dalston Kingsland Overground.)

The exhibition is part of Photomonth East London - the tutors of Lux Darkroom present a selection of their photography in a variety of analogue and alternative processes, including silver gelatin, lith, kallitype and cyanotype rex.

Exhibitors: Mike Crawford, Constanza Isaza Martinez, Peter Moseley, Andres Pantoja, and special guest Terry King

Private view tomorrow evening, Thursday 2nd October, from 6.30 to 10.00. All welcome.

Open Friday 4-8pm, Saturday 1-8pm, and Sunday 1-7pm.

I hope it goes well, Mike. In comparison to the rest of the U.K. London seems to do rather well for photography exhibitions which may just reflect its size and capital status, I suppose

Hmm well I know what you mean, but then it's a bit more likely that quite a few people from the worldwide APUG membership have something to say about equipment than about an exhibition only a handful of members will see.

There's not a great deal of value in just seeing 847 posts saying "that's cool but I live in (US/Canada/Brazil/Japan/Oz/etc)"

Of course with such an international community many will not be able to visit such an exhibition. However, I think there are two points that should be made:

1. London has an official population of 8.4 million (plus unregistered people, commuters and an estimated 16.5 million tourists) and I would have thought that there are more than a handful of members of APUG who are in the city.

2. A simple 'congratulations' post from members overseas (and those in the South-East of the UK who could not attend the exhibition) would have been a nice gesture of support for someone who is actually exhibiting their work.

If the world-wide collection of people using analogue photography can be regarded as a community (even if so defined by either shared interests or a common self interest in maintaining the practice of analogue photography including the continued manufacture of materials) then surely a little bit of mutual self support is not too much to ask for.

Frankly, I am not very interested in the equipment fetishism of photography but rather in seeing great images (ideally 'in the flesh' but also online).

Bests,

David.

Thanks for your support David and good to see you at the opening. What has been very positive for me, having spent all day in the gallery yesterday, is the opportunity to chat to visitors about the work which has helped me to formulate further what it's all about. Also inspired me to go back to Helgoland at some point, (the subject of the series), to work on the project further. Will help next time I write an Artists' Statement!

But enough of blowing my own trumpet, really more to encourage London and SE members to get hold of a Photomonth catalogue or check the website and see some interesting work out there. Also, lots of events and talks coming up over East London. http://2014.photomonth.org/

I have to agree with David 100% , In Toronto October 18th I am opening my new shop that contains The Dylan Ellis Gallery and as well is home to my photolab and frame shop.

We are opening with a pt pd show and silver show of 6 fantastic photographers.. Our goal is to exhibit as much photography as we can, and I have signed a 10 year lease to ensure
that this happens.

When in Toronto visit us, When in London visit Mikes gallery.. there are not too many locations willing to invest money in space to show our passion. Portraits.jpg
