In a shared darkroom I help run, we have a couple of LPL C7700s (model 3281). On each, the top rear panel of the lamphousing, a thick metal panel which is ribbed to dissipate heat, doesn't sit flat when secured in place. It sticks up slightly at the back by 2 or 3mm. Accordingly there is slight light leakage from the rear of the lamp housing onto the column. It seems as if the plate is not seated properly, but we have (we think) followed the instructions (p6 of the manual) properly.

Does anyone else have this problem, and is there a knack to assembling it which we are missing? Is it a design fault? Many thanks

Not exactly the same model, I have LPL C7700 Pro, but I do think that this thing started out as a Christmas tree first and only later people started using it as an enlarger.

I have a VERY small darkroom so covering the walls with black non-reflective surface and wearing dark clothes is pretty much required.

From your inclusion of the model number, I'm assuming that you have the dichroic colour head mounter.
My colour head mounted LPL 7700 is currently off site, but looking at the manual it apperas that that portion of the head is identical to the VCCE head that I have at hand.
I refer to this excerpt from the manual:

There is a slight knack to coordinating the position of parts 22 and 23 - if you don't do it right, part 23 ends up a bit back from where it belongs and the release button 21 is difficult to engage. Perhaps someone in the past has had that difficulty and bent something.

Thanks. Coincidentally, I took another look today with the manual to hand, and i think I've solved it, along the lines you suggest. Thank you.
