Lower Powered Bulbs for Beseler 23C

We have three of these that take the PH140 75 watt bulb. Here is an example from Freestyle. They are all putting out too much light. When our students last night were doing their first prints, they were having to stop down to about f/22, put in a grade 2 filter and their print times were about 10 seconds. That was with 35mm film and 8X10 paper. At that rate, it would be almost impossible to print a 5X7.

Any ideas for a replacement bulb? I am kind of flummoxed by this one. We have gotten a few new enlargers, our old ones used the little PH111A, also 75 watt, and we never had a problem like this with those enlargers.

that is the correct bulb for that enlarger.
some of the 23c take the 111's but some take the one shown in your post.

I might give that a try, if anyone has an idea for a lower output bulb that would work well, that would be a bit easier, but I will hang on to the diffusion idea as an alternative. Thanks Ann!

You post reminded me how efficient the condenser head is. I had a 23CII with the dichroic head in diffused mode and with the 6x9 mixing chamber. My exposure time is about 15 seconds at f/8.
