Looking for original 11x14" back for Century No 2

Hi,

I'm looking for an original back for this 11x14" Century N°2. I think it's the "Century Grand Studio outfit No. 2". I will restore it.

There is a 8x10" back with missing part and I'll send this part later.

I looked for 10 years, maybe more for the original back for a grand #8
never found one ... I ended up getting a Empire State which had a back
that was similar ...

John is right--11x14 backs for Century studio cameras are incredibly rare. Over time, portraits were taken on progressively smaller formats. The 11x14 cameras were much less common to begin with, and the larger backs were often misplaced or discarded as studios reduced format sizes. Some 11x14 Empire State cameras have backs that may fit Century Studio cameras. The ridiculously rare 11x14 Kodak 2D back will also fit. My recommendation is to buy any 11x14 back you can find and make an adapter to fit your studio camera. All 11x14 backs are rare, so a little patience helps. Good luck!

But my second option is to make a back by a friend. I would prefer to have an original camera but...

I have always a Kodak Century No 9A (8x10) in perfect shape. I have found this 11x14 in a flea market, for a good price.

This catalog from 1928 http://piercevaubel.com/cam/catalogs/1928graflexproflp543.htm shows the Century Studio Cameras and accessories. There is an incomplete 1927 catalog that shows them also. Earlier catalogs do not show the studio cameras.

Someone may have one sitting around but not know what they have.

Seriously--go for it. Have your friend build the back and you can start making images. If by some chance you find an original back, you can sell the fabricated back in---oh, say five minutes, on the forums.

Yep, it's less expensive and he can copy the model on my Century No 9A to adapt it on the 11x14".
