I am looking for parts for the cls 1840 and cls 300. For the cls 300, a couple of magnenta filters and anything for the power supply. For the cls 1840, any of the head parts-fan, reflector, shutter.

I know there has to be something in a back room somewhere, considering the amount of this equipment that was in use.

How about starting a user network of photographers to help support each other's needs with this equipment. Somehow a base needs to be created amongst the Durst largeformat users so that we are self-supportive. Just a thought.

Somebody sells filters cut to size. Of course I don't remember who -(

Worse case you could get somebody like KHB to refit the power supply and filters for you. I think somebody said they had the 8x10 durst power supply swapped for an Omega one. IIRC they can do just about anything including making parts.

Nick brings up some interesting ideas-- that parts of some enlargers may fit or work on other enlargers, and the possibility of some firm like KHB to refit or manufacture parts. I operate a Durst 8x10, and I’m always trying to find inexpensive spare parts to stockpile. On a Durst, Omega, or DeVere, every mechanical part could be fabricated or repaired by a good machinist. My only concern has been in the electronic circuit boards in power supplies and controllers. But even here, we’re talking 1980 or earlier technology.

All of us operating older equipment are going to be faced with the problems of replacement parts, and especially technical support. So I’m very interested in Allen Curtis’ idea of starting a user network to help others find parts or brainstorm problems. Just think of how many large format Durst, Omega, and DeVere enlargers were in service just a few years ago. The collective knowledge and experience of the APUG community is amazing, so APUG seems to be just the place to post notes on repairs, and wants. Maybe a dedicated thread for specific large format enlargers?

All I can say to those who are taking interest is thank you. I know that with the right data that other manufacters or repair people can be found-and they may become interested because of a common interest.

I am looking for, creating, a durst dunk-yard large-format, so to speak. I am very aware of an idea of trying to recycle the "New York taxi (hack)", but I have to stay on the idea that there are good parts around, which need to be accummulated into a "yard" "E-yard" for those who use them.

The technology isn't too advanced. As part of the E-yard, there could be input as to people and true knowledge as to how to work with parts both machined and elecronic.

It's just that what is out there needs to be found, secured and indentified, and then put into a base for use, and not in an opportunistic manner. The idea may be too "communistic" or commune-like, and romantic. The usage factor is so narrow that the people who use the equipment are no longer in the big, high-end, etc. lab market. They are mostly people identifing towards the art market, and that for time involved and money exchange, isn't high or med margin. We have to leave out the so called governmental market, and if they wish to have a positive impact on the art makers, thank you, we need the surplus.

Lets see what happens. AR Curtis

Word-of-mouth is very strong. I know that because of my market.

Allen,

A database of Durst sources for APUG users is a wonderful idea. The following is perhaps redundant because it is pieces of information picked out of an earlier thread, but I hope it will be useful inserted into your thread. For the full thread go to
(there was a url link here which no longer exists). Nathan nsmith01tx and I were just starting (May 29, 2005) on our venture to set up Durst 138Ss. Mine (an 8x10 Aristo Cold Light conversion) was delayed by summer vacations, but has been very happily running through September and October. I hope Nathan is doing as well.

Go to Dead Link Removed. They have PDF manuals and sales brochures with pictures and drawings. Also go to the site index and see what else is of help and interest http://jensen-optical.com/site_map.htm. This site has evolved considerably since May, 05

the manufacturers site is http://www.durst.it/

“I just returned from Jens Jensen place in Portland and whatever you need for the 138 series, he has or is having remanufactured. He is Durst for 5x7 and larger enlarging equipment. He was a very gracious and excellent host.” blaze-on

“I had luck finding "rare" Durst Laborator 1000 items from a Canadian which bought a huge new old stock of spares of that era...
Try Dead Link Removed and look at "inventory lists "on the left.
Prices could be a bit high... But it is new stuff !” GeorgesGiralt

Here is an additional web site to check to get some information on the 138. It has good descriptions and some history on the enlarger as well as giving you some idea on how it all goes together. I think you will find the prices a bit high for some of the parts though.
http://www.glennview.com/durst.htm . (He is about to retire. This may result in his being willing to sell easily or just the opposite.)

Stonemills.et is a good source for parts for most of the Durst enlargers and processors. They also have copies of the 138 operating instructions and service manual. There is also a previous thread on this site from a month ago about the NEGA 138 and the LAPFE inserts for the various film formats. The LADANE 138 inserts into the NEGA 138 to allow you to print roll film from 35mm to 120. As you know by now this enlarger is built like a tank. It is an exceptionally stable piece of equipment. One piece of advice though is not to try and adjust the tensioning springs on either half of the enlarger without the proper instructions or tools. gordrob

Donald Miller has three 138S s and has done extensive testing on various configurations.

Good luck in your project. I am sure we have many Durst users who will benefit from your effort.

John: Thank you for the reply.

I am very aware of the sources you have mentioned. I guess that is why I am fishing around and trying to establish another base.

If you need any information on putting together the 138's, I'll let you know what I know. I purchased two from E-bay, so you can imagine what I've had to learn through.

If you pay attention, dealing with the tensioning springs isn't too bad. You can make your own wrench for not very much.

Another 138S user here. Anyone know the thread and size for the screw that holds the ballhead to the table mounting thingy? I think that's the only part I don't have...

For those who have a need I have the Durst L1200, Tim 2000 and AC/AC Elite 1200 Manual in PDF form. This is not the thin glossy that appears with every L1200 auction, but the spiral bound (badly translated), booklet that covers installation, and operation including the not so intuitive operations of the tim 2000.

The L1200 are still supported but the auto focus version and Tim 2000 are not.

I'll let you know tommorrow. It is basically a machined part.
