I am looking for a flash trigger that can work with with my 203FE, a digital Canon 5Dmk2 and my FM3A and, ideally also my M6TTL.

I would like to be able to use my various flashes: a Metz 45 CL4, Nikon SB-30, Nikon SB-27, an old Panasonic thyristor and a Leica SF24D.

The Strobist site recommends Phottix Ares - would they work at all?

Thanks very much in advance
Philip

That Metz has no PC connector, but instead a Metz propriatery connector. One needs a Metz cable (or clone) from this connector to a hot foot or PC plug.

Thank you very much for the replies. And apologies that it took a while to write back; I was travelling and only returned home today to check more exactly what connectors I have for the Metz flash.

Thanks very much for helping with the connector on the Ares. I have a cable with PC plug to Metz-specific connector, see attached image. Are there such things as a PC (female)-RCA (male) adapter?

They should - you'd need to make sure you get both a transmitter and a receiver. The receiver has both a hot shoe and a 3.5mm RCA plug, which you'd need to get the appropriate cord (RCA to PC) to trigger the Metz,

Thanks a lot - your reply made me wonder if there is a cable with the Metz-specific connector that ends in a hotshoe?

I think you might be right. I can only get TTL to work with the SCA 300A and SCA390 kit. But I wouldn't be using TTL with the Phottix triggers.

Just firing the flash is one thing. Using the Hasselblad's ttl is quite another. I am thinking that would have to be hard wired.

Here is exactly what you need:

Hi again Scott

Would you know if this cable would work? It only has one lead on the flash end. I wouldn't use this cable for TTL through the SCA but to connect the flash to the trigger. But perhaps all leads are necessary for that?

Thank you Robin. My apologies for the delayed reply but for some reason I don't receive email updates from this forum. I've bought the Phoenix Ares II. I'm not having much luck with them though but think one of the units is faulty. I only got it to work initially with the SB-30 on my EOS 5Dmk2 but after a while also that stopped. I will visit the shop on Thursday to see what's the matter. Perhaps I will change to another model.

That SHOULD work for just triggering the flash. Obviously no TTL, but as you've said, in this case that's not the goal. I've not seen a Metz connector before without multiple pins, but my experience is far from universal.

For triggering a SCA flash that can be set to manual- or auto-mode just a 2-pole connection is necessary (of course it must be the right poles...).
