Looking for a different frame

I have a large print to frame and I really don't want to put a mat around it (which would make it huge as well as not adding to its look). It isn't one of my photos. I still don't want the glass or plexi right against the print. Years ago, I found some frames that let you put the glass/plexi in one slot and the image on backing in another slot so that there was air between them. Of course, now that I want to use one, I can't find them and don't remember what they were called to search effectively. Does anyone know what I mean and could point me to one? I need one that's 20x24 and preferably chrome or silver. TIA!

Talk a look at Plak-It. I have used it. They remove the emulsion from the paper and mount it on a wood surface. I have not used them for several years so they may mount on metal by now. http://www.plak-it.com/

Not a frame, but this will do what you want. Whether this is the best source for them, I don't know.

But with a 20x24 print, I would think you'd need to dry mount it so it stays flat.

The problem you describe comes up for some artists who do pastels. They generally use spacers like mgb74 linked to. You might contact Frame Destination, one of our APUG sponsors and ask what they might suggest. I've not done what you're describing, but F D has been good to deal with for the stuff I have bought.

The spacers mgb74 linked to might work if I can't find the frames I used before. I would have sworn FD was my source before, too, but I can't find anything like them on their site. Though it was about 12 years ago that I used one of the frames I remember. FD is my go-to for frames - I should just call them. Plak-it won't work because I don't have a file and only the one print.

Aha! I had been looking in the wrong places at Frame Destination. Either that or they didn't have them when I looked. And, yes, I'll need to do some sort of mounting, but I think I can handle that part.

I used C-41 color prints for Plak-It. I never had a file for any of those, only the negative and the print. I sent them the print.

Glad you found it! It our metal shadow box frame. We also carry spacers that clip on the glass or acrylic that will provide the air gap between the print the picture frame glazing.
