I just discovered a couple of unopened packages of Kodak hypo clear I didn't know I had. According to the date stamped on the package they expired in 2008 (they were stored at room temp the whole time). Would these be OK to use? What about the unopened packages of Dektol I found in the same box o' stuff (expired 2009)? Thanks!

Sure, why not. As long as the package is whole and has no leaks use it. If it has crystalized or turned color, check back in with us. I have used old packages of photochemicals.

I've used HCA that's 30 years old. As long as it's in sealed original packaging should be OK. The stuff in the the cardboard boxes from the 60's and early 70's being the exception.

The Dektol in paper/foil is better than what you can buy new

Kodak hypo clear is a non-critical chemical and I would use it without hesitation. Dektol all should be fine, but look at the color when you open the package. If it's light tan use it; if it is, however, dark brown, avoid it.

KHCA is mostly sodium sulfite and a little sodium bisulfite. Simple stuff. It's not going to oxidize like a developer, and as long as the package is still sealed it will be fine.
