Along those same lines, I plan on being in London right before Christmas, and would like to buy some 120 film when I get there rather than carrying on the plane, with all those issues. However, I'd rather take my own film than spend half a day looking for a shop.

Probably be staying near Victoria Station.

Thanks.

PS: Sorry Dave, didn't mean to highjack your thread ...

Google 'Silverprint'.

Cheers,

R.

Labs, I use Bayeux (www.bayeux.co.uk) who are at 78 Newman Street, just north of Oxford street about a quarter mile east of Oxford Circus. Speak to Kevin Markwick who makes fine fibre prints as well as develop.contact, proof etc options.

Film. Probably the easiest and certainly the cheapest route is to order on the phone/web from one of the better mail suppliers for delivery to your hotel. Try www.mailshots.co.uk; www.speedgraphic.co.uk; or
www.discountfilms direct.co.uk. All reliable and competitive. Expect to pay the equivalent of $4.50 for a roll of 120 TX - which might make you decide that carrying the film in isn't such a bad plan after all! Most central London photo retailers don't stock a big range and quantity of 120 film,

Next to Silverprint is Downtown Darkroom (now owned by Silverprint I believe). I've not used them but I believe they used to be well regarded by the Pros back when they actually used to shoot film... They are a B&W only outfit. The only details I can find are in this Silverprint .PDF document (www.silverprint.co.uk/PDF/Editorial_1.pdf). Silverprint is closed Sat & Sun.

Another well stocked location for buying film in central London is Process Supplies (www.process-supplies.co.uk)

To find the location of places, try www.multimap.com - plug the postcode in to the search box.

Cheers, Bob.

I use Metro Imaging: http://www.metroimaging.co.uk/ They are open late 7 days a week and have an extensive amount of film for sale. The are a fiull service high end professional lab like Duggal in NYC, A&I in LA, Gamma in Chicago, or Elevator in Toronto with a wide range of services including custom B&W developing and printing.

I have also used Primary Dead Link Removed for my Scala processing. They do B&W as well.

Have fun Dave!

Regards, Art.

It might be worth contacting US suppliers to see if you can get them to ship to your london address. There is a chance that such a shipment may be intercepted by UK customs and they charge 17.5% VAT on it.

You could always hire some time in a darkroom & do your own processing? e.g. http://www.photofusion.org/darkrooms/hire.htm

Silverprint and Calumet are the best places for film off the shelf (Calumet is the cheapest for pro 120 film off the shelf)., Silverprint for any other supplies you need.

For processing try Dark Side, Metro, Primary Colour (have used all of them) and Downtown Darkroom (havent used yet).

Mail order is a bit cheaper, but London has got pretty much everything on the shelf (support our shops and labs!). Wouldnt get stuff sent from the US - it might get X-rayed, and you really wont save much money if any.

The only films that aren't readily available over the counter in London are Foma, Forte/Classic and Adox/Efke - these you will have to order from Dead Link Removed.

Hope this helps,

Lachlan
