My Belair 6-12 had not been in use for a year or so. When I took it out today, I put fresh batteries and I tested the shutter. It opens as it should, but there is only one short single speed, no matter which ISO setting and how much light there is and it does not stay open on B setting. The shutter is automatic and should be 1s to 1/125. I presume there is a 1/125 shutter and a delay device which doesn't work anymore. Any advice?

I have encountered a similar problem. I recently bought a second-hand almost new Belair 6-12. The original owner only used it once after purchasing it in 2017, and there was no leakage in the battery compartment. After installing the battery, the indicator light can be turned on, but there is only about a 10% probability that the normal shutter speed (including B mode) can be triggered. I think there may be some poor soldering or rust somewhere, so I plan to disassemble it for research, but I can't find any repair manuals or tutorials online.🧐

Finally, after more than one month, there is an answer. Thank you. Meanwhile I have taken apart another Belair camera. There was oxydation on the contacts, without a battery leak. Cleaning the contacts put the camera to work again. I will post some photos within a week...

last Thursday I plucked up the courage to take the camera apart and took a look. I found that the part marked in the picture for triggering the shutter was loose, and it was not possible to push the upper shutter blades and shutter delay assembly to open when pressing the shutter trigger.

Snipaste_2024-07-26_11-31-47.jpg

The two GIF files demonstrate:

belair-shutter.gif : Demonstrates the action of the shutter when it is opened normally (I did not push the shutter lever all the way at this time, the metal piece below did not pop up, and there was no click sound)

belair-failure.gif : If the shutter lever is pushed to the bottom, the shutter fails to be triggered due to a malfunction (although a clicking sound is made, the part marked in the picture above fails to push the upper paddle open, and the shutter fails to open completely)

I removed this part, reinstalled it and tightened the screws, and the function is now completely normal. I hope it can help people with similar problems to troubleshoot the problem.

That's really great!!! I have 2 belairs, one has the same problem. So I will try your solution by the end of the week and report back next week.

The second one was easier: the battery contacts were oxydized. A bit of scratching and the camera worked again.
