Localized selenium intensification

I remember that John Sexton described a technique for localized negative intensification using rapid selenium toner. Does anyone remember this? He applied the toner with a brush, but was the negative dry or wet? What dilution?

Also, what is a good dilution to use for selenium-intensifying an entire negative in a tray/dish? How much time do you leave it in there?

In The Toning Book, Tim Rudman describes a method where the selenium toner is combined with a small amount of water soluble jelly (KY jelly, I believe), then applied with a small brush. I am sorry, I do not have the book with me, but I will post the details when I get home tonight, unless someone else can chime in first.

Yes, It is KY jelly mixed with straight toner...EC

Keep in mind that this technique removes the stain from pyro negatives, effectively negating the added density. It may be possible to "resurrect" the stain in these areas, but I have not had the time to experiment on this yet (if anyone knows the answer, I would be grateful...).

BTW, I like the KY idea; it would really make intensifying small, discrete areas a lot easier.
