Little screws

I just got a Pentax digital spot meter and it is missing one of the tiny black screws that hold the collar to the end of the barrel. Where would I go to replace it without having to send it to a repairman?

Mike... do you know where one might buy an assortment of itty bitty screws?

I don't know how to accurately measure it. It is approximately 3/32 wide with a phillips cross at the head and it is approximately 1/16th inch long.

Surplus Shed, in Pennsylvania, is just now advertising bags of little assorted screws from cameras, binocs, old raptars, etc, etc.

Don't forget, even in mechanical threads there are several types, as imperial and metric.

Well, you could have master threads (known nuts or self cut threads) to test a screw, but anyway the best would be to try very gently with the female thread on the object itself.

Ehh... they're so small you can just force them with a screwdriver.

The non-metric ones, especially on older cameras and equipment, are instrument screws. 00-90, 0-80, 1-72, etc. Fine them at a good model railroad shop.

I have found out that Richard Ritter has the Pentax barrel screws for 5 bucks each!.. ouch.... could be worse.

Hey, if he had to buy a box of 100 for $5 he has to make his money back, doesn't he? Actually, I don't see this as overpriced at all... it takes time to deal with the order, track down the part, package it, etc. I don't think I would sell one for any less.

Microfasteners.com (again) you can get 100 for a couple bucks in sizes up to #4, then they start getting more expensive as there is real metal involved. However when you get really small stuff they also get more expensive. They stock metric and imperial, but some of the really small sizes may not be listed on the website. Shipping to me has never been more than 2 days, but I only live one state away.

Alternate sources are any shop that carries radio controlled model helicopters, lots of tiny metric screws in some of those birds.
