Trying to shoot some birds at our three different bird-feeders we have at our house. So to help, we purchased a Remote shutter release for an Nikon D-90. Works great, but the cord length is very short, about 3', and right now have the camera on a tripod, by a living room window, with the shutter release passing through it so we can fire it from inside the house. We would like to purchase an 'extender' for it. To lengthen its reach! The local camera store, knows of nothing available, and have no idea of what to call it, so as to even look for one on the internet.
Have no experience with digital, so are these even available? .
Thanks for any help..

Background:
Borrowed a Nikon D-90 back in 2016, from my brother in law, as we were doing some volunteer work in Texas, and needed something simple to use so we could take some shots and e-mail it for discussion over the internet, on a project that a group we belong to, was doing down there. Worked great for that! .Returned home, but he wouldn't take it back, and stated with a smile,... .. "Keep it and use it!"
Ha.. Had a friend help me set it up for B&W, set to manual, with the thought, might try to use it as a precursor for sunrise and sunset shots in getting a better exposure setting, before taking a film shot. Like Polaroid was used in the past, when shooting LF.for different difficult scenes, to help get a correct exposure. But alas, dragging another camera around, just didn't pan out, so it never got used.
Then my son and daughter in law came for a visit, recently, but she had forgotten to bring her camera! Soooo we dug out the old D-90, that we never use, and let her have a go with it. They left, and was messing around with it in the living room, and took a shot of a dove in the bird feeder.
Oh.. my.. never tried to shoot birds with film, as they are what they are, and I'm sure those who do, .. shoot birds with film, go through roll after roll.trying to get a descent shot. But have had a lot of fun with it, and thus the title to this post.

Best format for birds I think is m4/3 because you get double the focal length and DOF. For example, a 200mm f/4 lens for full frame - on a m4/3 body, that gives you the equivalent of a 400mm f/8.

A friend has an OM-D E-M5 - a m4/3 camera with 5-axis built in stabilization. Great for birds. The camera and three lenses replaced his D800 and one lens in the same space in his bag.

Lots of birders love m4/3. Bird photos are difficult - especially bif (birds in flight).

Normally digital cameras like this have wireless cable release. More modern have tethering or how it is called with phone, computer as well. Cable release is so apug.

I have a wireless remote for my D90.
It works great.
Seems like it cost about $3 shipped from China and arrived within 2 weeks.

You could always splice in your own extender. Just connect the red wire to the red wire, etc. It's not hard to do. There is a limit to how far it will go and still work, and that limit will be dictated by the type of wire you use and the sensitivity of the signal. You can probably use something like a CAT5 or maybe telephone cable, as these will have multiple cables in one convenient sheath (depending on how many cables you need to run). If you wanted to, you could even buy a second cable release and connect their two cables together.

I made a long corded remote for a Pentax 645 using one from a Kodak carousel projector and a home-whittled and drilled male end out of hardwood. Not pretty but was really long and worked great.
