When I am out with my film camera I hear the question, “Where to you get your film developed?” all too often. I would like to put together a list of mail order labs. Most of the population does not have a local lab just up the street any more.

In the Digital age people do not want to wait for their photos. To cut down in the time film is in the mail a closer lab may be better. I have listed labs by location. If you live in Maine it may be faster to ship your film to Connecticut then to LA. But not always. Some labs today might only run E6 or True B&W one day a week. Sending to a further away lab that still does daily runs maybe faster if you shoot E6 films.

If you know any other labs in the USA or overseas just list them. Comments on any lab are welcome.

I know many of you have a local chain stores that do send out work or maybe even has a one hour lab still. One problem with that is the one hour lab may be good on Monday when an employee you cares is working but VERY poor on Tuesday the other guy is running it. Big companies are always trying to cut costs and they often change who and how their send out film is developed. So good in December and bad in January when they change service is not uncommon. Big chains don’t care about your film they just mostly care about the other items you buy when you are in the store. A quality film developing lab will at least care enough to try to keep service high.

Some of the labs listed are current APUG advertisers.
If you need a lab to start with why not one of them?

Great idea. I've been using TheDarkroom, San Clemete CA, for the past year or so. Great service!

Thanks, Brian, for starting this thread; this has been very useful to me already!

I'm about to give Praus Productions Inc. -- Dead Link Removed -- a try this week. I have several E6 rolls to send and I'm unhappy with the local lab (CRC/Vista). I'll post back in a week.

Thanks for the post.
If you list a lab please note where it is located.
One of the reasons I started this is so people could find labs close to where they live.

Praus Productions is in:

New York - Rochester

In St. Louis, Missouri: Allied Photocolor.

I use them for my B&W film development. They only use XTOL, in a "dip and dunk" process. I've been very happy with them; very consistent results.

I just used The Darkroom for the first time and very impressed. Sent my film off on Monday and already have my scans viewable on the web tonight (Wednesday). Should have my CDs and prints on Friday. I used NCP prior to this and happy, but wanted to try a different lab. Might try Richard Photo next.

There actually is similar Sticky Thread under Product Availability titled, “Lab Services”

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I posted this in the Color section because I do all my own B&W at home but mail in my color work.
I think this is common for many hobby photographers.
