I use protective gas which effectively prevents oxidation. Gourmet (wine?) shops sell these gases for half empty wine bottles (solitary drinkers exist), Tetenal (Germany) makes product -"Protectan", if my memory serves me right, specially for photographic purposes or you can use plain butane gas as used for filling lighters etc. All are heavier than air.

Using butane is extremely dangerous, not only is it a fire hazard, but the chances of having a bottle of chemistry explode is quite high, getting embedded with plastic shrapnel is bad, having that shrapnel coated in potentially toxic liquid, could be deadly.

ansco 130 ... can be filtered though a coffee filter when they get a layer of crud in the bottom of the storage bottle

I find a 1/4 tsp EDTA / qt water before adding chemicals keeps crud from forming. Calgon/Hexametaphosphate will do the same. The Calgon 'wash-aid' sold in supermarkets seems to be something else entirely and stinks to high heaven.

I checked my Tetenal "Protectan Antioxidant Gas" bottle and the label says it contains 20-40% butane and 60%propane. And "Extrtemely flammable". But you are hopefully not working by candle light in your dark room..

Sprint Systems, an Apug sponsor, makes a liquid print developer that holds up pretty well, I've used it for years. I also would req. ansco 130, as many others have, good stuff.

I have never bothered looking, but the stuff works really, really well.

Doesn't seem to have an odour either

Martin

That's because neither gas has much if any natural odor, ethyl mercaptan is added to make it stink, same with natural gas.
