linhof film back loading

Can anyone help me with instuctions on how to load a film
into an early linhof 6 x 9 film back.

It does not automaticaly return to zero when the cover is unlatched
but it does so by winding the film off fully.

this aspect of it seems to be ok and It counts the frames ok.

just can't work out how to get it to frame one correctly.

With the back open advance the film so that the large start arrows on the film backing appear in the window through the pressure plate. There may be a red arrow in the back alerting you of where the window is, but I'm not positive that all inserts have it. Close the back with the insert, and advance the film to frame 1.

If you have the older style Rollex back with the knob wind, you may have overlapping frames with some films. This cannot be repaired, though there are a few tricks that some people use to address the problem. If you have a later Super-Rollex back with the lever wind, you shouldn't have this problem.

Glad to hear that worked out for you. I've had several Linhof rollfilm backs, and the details can vary, but one nice thing is that inserts are interchangeable among backs of the same model and rollfilm format, so if you have a 6x9 120 back for a 4x5" Super-Rollex and happen to find a good deal on a 6x9 220 back for a 2x3" Super-Rollex, even though the 4x5" back won't fit a 2x3" camera and vice versa, the inserts are interchangeable. This seems to hold true even between earlier tan Super-Rollex backs and later black ones. I don't think you can mix and match inserts between Rollex and Super-Rollex backs, though.
