Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Minolta Hi-Matic G2 but there are no light seals in the majority of the door of the camera. There is some kind of thread in the groves of the body though. I was told by the person I bought it off that the camera doesn't need seals in the door. however I find this hard to believe. Can anyone tell me if I need to install seals in the door or not. I have included some photos.

Thanks!

The camera may not need such seals, but they can't hurt. You can use thin black yarn (or unravel some regular yarn) for the lengths of the doors, and the felt from a 35mm cartridge for the end piece, held in place with rubber cement.

Try a film lots of cameras have no seals.

Nikon F2
Canon P

If you foam them it will need replacing and might cause shutter damage.

Note the F2 does have mirror foam.
