LIGHTROOM 3 ISSUES

How comes that I can't run LR3 in a higher version than 3.3 on my MacPro 1,1 ?
This Mac is a 3 years old 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xenon with 10 GB MHz RAM and runs OSX 10.6.8. The whole 'thing' freezes, that little wheel you know, and all I can do then is a forced stop of LR to be able to do anything on the computer.
I checked and repaired all I could and reinstalled LR3 from the CD.
I wonder if I ever will be able to run LR4...

I don't use LR but when I occasionally have a similar problem with PhotoShop CS4extd I shut down, reboot, and trash the PS preferences. Since that seemed to work I just trash the PS preferences before opening it.
