I have light leaks in virtually the same place in several rolls and I am trying to figure out the source. They occur only mid roll, only slightly intruding into the frame. They are smaller than a small eraser head, and occur 2-3 times on different frames in each roll. The shape repeats and is like a small elongated oil drop. Is this static electricity, or something else?

I've never seen anything like you describe, but I doubt it's static. Static is electricity and looks like it, forming patterns like a spider web. I don't know where you're shooting, but static usually occurs in cold, dry weather.

Have you checked the inside of the back for a foreign object?
