Hey, yeah, thanks to the folks who did the organizing and teaching. I had a great time. It was worth the drive just to see the VPC and the cool space.

Thanks to Drew and Whitey for the free stuff, and everyone else for being so darn friendly.

Hmm, let's see if the avatar "took". JustK, I've uploaded the picture to the standard gallery. Gene, I'll gladly return to the Quabbin (after May) but this time you're not going to fool me into putting rocks in my pockets before the "ceremonial dunk"....

I can't stop smiling, I had such a great time!!!

Thank you to everyone for teaching and sharing precious knowledge, and for your patience and kindness, and special thanks to Gene and Suzanne for bringing us together, and to Bill Hahn who trusted this newbie with his Walker Titan (btw your avatar looks great, and I hope you are feeling better), and to Bob Fowler who had me laughing more than I have in a long time.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again real soon!!!
Cheers, Krystyna

Bill - those weren't rocks. They were bass food. Rumors tells of a humungous large mouth bass named Charlie that likes to tip over boats of fishermen in the Quabbin and feed on those unfortunate souls. I was just testing to see if the rumor was true... maybe next time!!

Manjo, it was my pleasure. Bill Hahn had a nice little group set up and I was pleased to have been a part of it. It's never a problem to help out someone who has a genuine interest. Just read as much as you can about LF and keep practicing and next year you will be helping someone who wants to learn.

Keep in touch.

Bill, thanks for what you did. I guess more than one person got addicted this weekend.

Heh! That's what I had in mind when I made the original offer above. The best part
is the startled exclamation when they see the image on the ground glass for the first
time....

JimG, without straining I can think of three useful tips I learned from you, so we're probably even.

For me, the best part of the day was listening to Whitey's sales pitch: "OK guys, I'm really going to throw this out if nobody takes it!". Next best was Bob Fowler throwing boxes of 4x5 film out as if he was feeding the seals at the zoo. (This seal got three boxes!)

And Gene, I don't know about any giant bass named Charlie, but I did make the acquaintance of some catfish in my struggles to return to the surface....

Bob Fowler really sparked my interest in using Packard shutters. I have a big Nikkor 480mm I need to shutter - and I mean BIG and heavy. Not sure which size Packard I will need, but if someone has one available and for sale, I would definitely be interested. I am also in the market for some lensboards for my Kodak 8x10's, a Master and a Commercial View. They both use a 6x6" with square corners, approx. .125 thick. If any of these are available, please let me know.

Thanks
James

I was mostly trying hard to keep from getting addicted 'cause I don't have room to add anything at the moment. Once I gett settled somewhere, I could see myself scouring classifieds, etc.. for a used 4x5. I really had a great time, though. I'll need to show someone my great-grandfather's Graflex and see if it's fixable/useable.

ok, i've been late in commenting....as my mind has been in a continual buzz. Do I sell my 4x5...or not? Do I buy a longer lens for it and use it more often (which means I might have to take off the short rail and put on the long one) doing things other than architecture. my mind is in an organizing mode...should be have a person documenting the group - member's skills and interests, workshops & locations, speakers, activities, etc? How much to contribute to facilities we use? What to give speakers for their time? Ok..I'll settle down shortly...thanks for letting me ramble...

I can crank out a few for you (going to be spending some time in the woodshop this week). How many do you need? Drop me a PM.

LF addiction is worse than crack... there is no rehablitation. I am bidding on ebay polariod 545 holder and film already. Lost a bid last night but I will keep bidding till I win one. I wish I had not wasted so much money on 35mm lens.

Both types of film seems to have produced excellent prints. I would have been hard pressed to tell the difference.

Bruce mentioned a source for the mat boards he used for the Polaroid 4x5's and it seems like a great price. I thought it was www.matboards.com, but that is an invalid web address. Bruce, or anyone else, what is the source?

Thanks,
James

OOPS! Yup, Matshop.net or Matshop.com gets you to the same, and right, place.

My wonderful plastic bags came from Clearbags.com. They're 8 7/16 x 10 1/4 and I paid ten cents apiece for 500 three years ago (it takes a long time to go thru 500...), so I'm not sure what pricing is now, with $64/barrel raw materials. Remember, they're wonderful because the peel-strip adhesive is on the bag, not the cover, so they're reclosable and it's easy to get the print in without sticking.

I had a lot of fun meeting y'all, and hope we do this again in some form soon!

Bruce, a big help. Thanks much. Btw, your presentation Saturday was very good and an interesting one.
