Has anybody had any experience with this lens? My dad had one in Canon fd mount, and I'm just wondering what I have here. I know Leonar was a German company, but I believe this lens was made in Japan in the 60's or 70's.

Leonar was a manufacturer of photographic papers, but in their early days also branded cameras.

That japanese manufacturer might have taken over that idea.

I meanwhile checked with my sources too. It seems they actually manufactured cameras themselves though even such simple things are meanwhile hard to base on evidence...

That they marketed cameras though is well known.

I found ads in Popular Photography for this lens, but there the trail stops. I've seen their cameras online, as well. I did not realize they manufactured them. Thanks.

They did not. The Leonar company has nothing to do with your zoom lens except for that it got the same brand name. The company stopped marketing or even makinmg lenses long ago, and it even did not exist anymore when you lens was made.
