WD40 is ... one of the most useless products on the planet as far as I'm concerned.
You wouldn't say that if you drove an old-style Mini! I agree that WD-40 is an odd substance and probably not the world's greatest penetrating oil, but it does a number of things quite well and is a fine moisture repellent. Many's the time I have garnered an entirely undeserved reputation as a wizard mechanic by simply spraying the rain-soaked distributor of a Mini (cunningly placed right at the front under the hood where roadwater splashes are at their strongest) with WD-40 for 5 or 10 seconds.
