Get a Sinar 8x10 F2 or P (preferably P - since it's more solid) for $1000. Then you can get a Sinar behind-the-lens shutter if you decide you really need it later. That'll be another 400. But you're shooting 8x10 - in most instances your exposures (if you're stopped down a ways) are going to be on the order of several seconds - in which case you can use the charlie chaplin shutter... if you know what I mean.
Bob - so... you're doing multi-second exposures for portraits...? There ARE certain problems affiliated with that - as you can probably imagine... it just sounds like you're looking for sharp details in the face - which you're not really going to get without either direct sunlight or a strobe system... just my 2 cents.
Sparky , I plan to use hot lights for both projects, I am considering those lights that are used on the movie sets with kick ass power.

The single image was my first idea, then I decided to put my objects in situations that suit their character,* powerranger leaving his space ship to dominate the world*
The portrait series is as silly as this.
Eh- it's not so silly - I'm sure you know that. I've certainly seen sillier (Wegman, Les Krims, etc..) - I always say "it doesn't even matter so much what you start with - it's where you take it that matters... take it to the maximum and you can't lose.."
How are you doing that solarizing btw - is that on the print?
The 2000w horizontal is a Durst that is being installed right now...
The Deveere is a 11x14 Vertical which can do up to 30x40 in my present setup...
The sink right now is 4ft x 14 ft and I am adding 18ft of extension, as well I have commissioned a 50 inch x 9 ft 6 slot archival washer that is being built as well to wash these big prints...
We have a 40x60 inch hot press which we use every day and I have a line on a 4ft x 8ft hot press that is 5 blocks away...
I wish there was a lab. like yours near me! Thirty something years ago, as a child, I spent a year in Orillia, 90 miles or so from you - maybe I should go back.
Re. your Rodagons, I was wondering whether at portrait distances you'd be getting to the point where they'd be better reversed? Just a thought, and since you will probably be front mounting them if you do decide to use a shutter, it would be easy to use them either way round.
