Hello,
I recently bought a Beseler 45V-XL with out a lens and I was wandering what kind of lens is compatible with this enlarger.

I am looking at the Nikkor EL-N 50mm 2.8, will the mount of this lens be compatible with the Beseler 45V-XL mount?

The 50mm lens that came with my Durst enlarger does not fit.

Thanks,
K.

It will for 35mm neg.
you need to find a lens board for the enlarger that is also bored out for the lens
They are an easy fine try b&h or freestyle

Thanks for the reply Ann, I have a lens board that came with it but I will have to check exactly what it is when I get back home tonight. I believe is a Leica 39M mount?
I really don't know what I'm talking about... Will check and let you know.

Is there any post with information in regards to lenses focal length, negative size, paper dimensions and how these relate?

The 50mm Nikkor requires a 39mm hole. If you buy that lens, make sure you get the jam nut with it. Best wishes,

Thanks,

I also found this: (there was a url link here which no longer exists) which also provides good information on the subject.

You may (or may not) need a recessed lensboard for a 50mm lens, the bellows may not compress enough for small prints with a lens this short. For all my 35mm negatives I use a longer 75mm focal length lens, gets me a bit more room between the lens stage and the easel for making smaller prints.

Hello everyone,
the lens board I have is for 39mm thread lenses, meaning the 50mm Nikkor will mount on it, ordered a few minutes ago from Japan, hopefully it will arrive soon enough

darkroommike i'm looking more into 8x10 and 9.5x12, should be fine, right?

The 45V-XL can easily accommodate 50mm lens without any special recessed lens boards. On my 45V-XL I have 50mm Nikkor and 75mm Rodenstock and 150mm Schneider all mounted on the Beseler lens turret.

This was my habit too, except a 135mm lens for 120 film negatives (6x6 and 6x7)...prints to 11x14.

Well the lens arrived but it doesn't fit the lensboard...

I need some help, here are two pictures I took.

You can see the label on the lensboard box and the back of the lens passing through the mount without even touching. Maybe the box had another lensboard inside or a different board is needed?

I googled the issue but it made me even more confused with many opinions but no solid answer.

Apparently I am missing a lock ring. I didn't know that Beseler boards are not threaded.

Yes i'm sticking it in backwards in the picture...

That is one of the correct lens mounts for the 50/2.8A EL Nikkor on the Beseler 45VXL. You have shown the lens mounted backwards through the clearance hole. Most Beseler lens mounts are not threaded. You must install a 39mm threaded retaining ring onto the threads at the back of the lens after passing the threaded end through the lens board.
