I have an old Graflex Supergraphic 4 x 5, and the lens is one in which I rotate it to cock the shutter. My guess is, that with this type of lens one cannot use filters. I've mainly been shooting black and white landscapes and I'd like to try some filters to help the skies out a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a little gadget that was at one time made by Nikon. It holds a 3 x3 filter and is on a funny spring ring set up. It had barn doors, so I took those off and with wide angle lens clamp the filter holder on the back of the lens and place the whole piece back into the camera. Works just fine.
You might check Freestyle. at one time they had a filter holder that may do the trick.
Sorry to be so vague about the description. You just push on the spring part to establish the correct size, drop in the filter and shoot.

Go to graflex.org and look around for more information. The lens takes the common Series VI filter - you unscrew the built in lens shade, drop in the filter and screw it back on. There are hints on the graflex site for getting a stuck lens shade off.

I'd caution you to be very careful cocking the shutter. There are plastic/nylon parts inside and the only man who still knows how to repair them had a stroke last spring.

Interesting. I meant to look when I had class tonight, but forgot. For some strange reason i have several. Gave one to one of my advance students but kept the other . I am sure you will find it very handy.

Calumet sells [or did] sell a filter system for the rear of the lens.

I have one of the Voss clip-on shade/gel holders. I got it from KEH for around $15, and they had a few of them at the time. It's a great little accessory, particularly since I have lots of 3x3" acrylic filters, and several lenses with odd filter threads.
