I know the D2 (non variable condenser) uses lens cones of different depths for lenses of various focal lengths.

But how about the variable condenser head? Are different lens cones required or just the flat board?

Lens cones are required for long lens, regardless of the kind of head. Reason is that unlike the Bessler which has a double bellows which can move the lens in and out to compensate for negative to lens distance the Omega needs cones to make the adjustment. Just like on a camera, a long lens needs a long barrel.

I feared that; though not a huge deal.

I have my eye on a D2 with variable condenser. From what I can tell from the photo, it just has the flat board. I believe the flat board goes to 105mm, but would like the option of using a 135mm lens. It does appear that the 2 3/4" cone can be found on ebay.

I have a recessed lens board for my 50, use a flat board for 60 to 105, and 2 3/4 for 135 and 150. I think the D5 has a longer cone for 150 to 180.

hi mgb74

im not sure if they made one of these for the d2, i have one formy d3v and e3 ..
its an auxillery focusing attachment
http://store.khbphotografix.com/Aux...a-D3-D-4-B-E-and-F-series-Enlargers-Used.html
it's supposed to be used for jewel prints and reductions but i use it so i never have to get cones ...
never seen one for sale besides this one at khb, and the ones i bought from harry taylor ..
just found one on the 'bay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Auxi...524761?hash=item590d6fdf19:g:4fMAAOSwfRdZDmqK
not sure if it fits the d2 though, i think your cones are smaller or bigger than the ones for the d3 ...
( or maybe not, mine is a military contract one, so its kind of screwy )
good luck !

I've never seen that "lower" bellows for an Omega before.

I am sure that will fit both the Omega DII and D2 enlargers and evidently for the D3 also. You do need a different lens board however, than the ones designed for the "cones".......Regards!

My DII (early D2)V uses the same cones as when it had no variable condenser. Used, those cones are almost the cheapest thing you can buy for your Omega and I have never seen one that was "worn out". You do need one set of regular condensers in order to use the variable condenser.....Regards!

The D5s and D6s have a built in lower bellows. But that auxxiliary bellows is new to me though.

I have one of the auxiliary bellows that jnanian linked to that I use with my DII. It works as designed for reductions. I think it's too wobbly for everyday use though.
I've got the set of flat, recessed and a couple different standard cones. When you use the right cone for the lens, you don't have to struggle too hard - it's right for the range of bottom-to-top elevation.

The D2/DII lens mount is different from the mount on the D3/D4. The former bayonets in the latter slides straight in.

Made for several different Omega models, I have three (!) one each D2, D3 and one without a mount that I got with a bunch of parts. Also useful for making reduction prints, smaller than the negative size, for lockets, etc.

There's also a longer 6 inch cone for the D2 made for the older 162mm lens, works nice for the 150's also if you make a lot of smaller prints, I used to make black and white wallets by the ton when I worked in a portrait studio.
