I have acquired a V35 with a couple of issues, I hope that someone can point me in the right direction, firstly the Focus doesn't work, I think that the previous owner may have removed the screw that holds the lens mount in the 'detent" (and lost the spring & ball bearing, I have ordered replacements since originally posting this) as it spins even when screwed in tight,

Secondly, the masking bars on either side of the negative holder don/t move, the top & bottom ones are fine. Any one any idea how to repair? One side makes a rattling noise when the knob is turned, the other side is quiet, nothing happens, I can live without, but would like to restore it if possible. Upon opening the light box and removing the mixing chamber I found this spring sitting loose (see photo), can anyone tell me where it comes from, there are no obvious places that I can see?

Wow, I thought I would be able to help you, but honestly I can't. I do own a V35 and worked as a darkroom tech 30 years ago at a newspaper that had seven of them. Has the light box been up-dated to the new style on your unit. The old style won't work as the bulbs are discontinued and you need a new light box that takes the new bulb. I know this wasn't your question but thought I would ask.

Yes I have the latest bulb holder, which is the important bit, the updated mixing box only has a small difference and isn't required, but it does provide slightly improved evenness to the light out put. I also have a couple of spare bulbs from KHB, the one fitted was a Phillips 8556? a poor replacement.
 
OK I have found where the spring comes from, it is part of the "lid" to the light box & holds it in place
