It this for real?
Ebay Item: 270058391429

An Elmar is a Tessar with different aperture placement, so I guess it is possible, but my guess is that it is a Leitz bezel screwed on the front?

Looks authentic enough but a 105mm tessar will not cover 4X5 or if it does, only barely. This is probably from an old 6X9cm folder. It's NOT a 4X5 lens.

I believe it's real, but I don't believe it's an LF lens!

Leitz did make some 6x9 cameras, which fits with the 105mm focal length of this lens.

Kingslake's "A History of the Photographic Lens" doesn't mention this particular flavour of "Elmar", but that's no reason to doubt its existence.

BTW, it's interesting to remove the rear tube of a 135mm f:4.5 Hektor. And check the image circle... :D

I don't think Leitz ever made a folder. They did make a medium-format enlarger.

I've seen a couple, so I have no doubt they made them. There's been a few sold on German ebay for lots of money, about half of what camera$ wants for the lens alone.

Leitz supplied lenses to many camera makers up to and including the 1920s, Nagel for one. It can be quite interesting to play with, for example, a 135 mm Hektor. Unscrewed from its barrel, this will cover 9 x 12 cm easily, which is what it was originally designed to do. I believe Leitz stopped supplying other makers when the Leica really took off in the early 1930s and they needed all their lens-making capacity for Leica lenses.

As others have said, a 105 lens will cover no larger than 6 x 9 cm. The ad says it fits a 4 x 5" camera, doesn't say anything about coverage!

I forgot to add: That's about the same relationship between lens alone and camera with lens that you usually find for 150mm Heliars vs. a 9x12cm Bergheil with 150mm Heliar...
