Leica R6.2 Spot Metering

Hello, I was hoping someone that is familiar with built in camera meters could assist me. I try to spot meter using the option on the R6.2 and I am able to get a reading for the shutter speed based on my ISO by adjusting the shutter dial however I noticed that the meter does not give me the aperature reading. I've tried the manual but have a hard time understanding. Would I have to manually choose an f/stop through calculations for the shutter speed and ISO or should there be an option somewhere on the LED lights or the lens itself? I found it a little strange that the only time I was given an aperture reading was when the DOF lever was held down but the manual says specifically not to hold it down while doing a reading. I also found out that if I hold down the meter while turning the manual exposure ring changes the aperture reading. Does this mean that turning the aperture ring on the lens doesn't affect the meter reading and it would instead be read by turning the manual override ring? Can someone please explain what the issue is here? Thank you.

Is your lens 3cam or R only?
2cam or 1cam lenses would not give aperture setting data to the camera body and metering is only working stopped down.

It's an R. Summicron 35mm. My confusion is how do I know which f stop to use. Once I set the shutter speed am I able to just set the camera to any f stop or will i need to determine that on my own? As for stopping down, I understand all I have to do is set a wide aperature and then meter and take the picture?

All these lenses (1cam, 2cam, 3cam, R-only) are R-lenses but how many cams does your lens have. If you can change the aperture without noticeable change in the metering values then probably your lens is not for R cameras but for Leicaflexes, it can be mounted and work on your camera but won't fully cooperate with the camera's light meter. It would be easier if you could show as an image of the mount of your lens.
Stop down metering (in a word) is metering with aperture closed to the set value but I am sure that this has been discussed in an earlier conversation, please do a little search.

antmar has nailed your problem. Look at your manual for which lenses are required for your camera, or just use stop down metering. If you are unsure about the cam question, google it and you will get lots of info

That would make more sense to me, I have always wpndered why the window above the lens couldn't reveal the entire f/stop on the LED light. I always assumed it was because it was an older lens, but I know leica camera's are made with such detail it didn't seem right. Here are some picture of the lens. If they are too poor I can send a different one.

I did some reading and think I understand now. The lens I have is 3 cam so to get an aperture reading for the meter I would choose my f/stop and then meter for my shutter speed, then hold down the DOF lever to see what the meter says is right, release the DOF lever and adjust the aperture as indicated and then take take the picture? The manual warns against holding down the DOF lever while adjusting the exposure because it assums I am using an R cam lens, but for a 3 cam I would want to do that and hat is how I get my expsoure. I tested the settings in my dslr and it seems to add up! Thank you!

With a 3 cam lens stop-down metering (using the DOF level) is not needed. Unfortunatelly form the above picture I can't say whether yout lens has all three cams.
