I was given a Leica R3 MOT Automatic yesterday. I haven't put any batteries in it yet (will try later this week), but there is a screw missing that holds the bottom plate on. If that's the only thing wrong, then it's a no-brainer, but if there's anything else needed, would it be worth the bother? (Note, the camera did not come with a lens).
Hello,
the R 3 was the first non-Leitz developed camera, in fact it was a modified Minolta XE-1. The camera is used quite cheap as it is not held in high esteem which is unfair.
I have one and for me it's Leica. A very good camera and like to use it, even if it is a bit heavy. You need the batteries to see if it is fully operational.
Ok- I got batteries and the shutter is fully operational, but I did notice that the meter pegs at 4 seconds when I have no lens attached. Is that normal?
