As I have a few R lenses, have looked around for an adapter to stick them on M5, and sure enough they make them. But so far nobody spells out how it works with viewfinder frame showing in camera. Do they all default to 50mm view when used on M cameras? And user is stuck with flipping frame lever to see correct finder frame? Probably hardly any other way to implement it anyways.

Have seen the expensive new R adapters for digital M's, but that is different story and not what I am after.

Funny because I did not even think of using one a film rangefinder. What's the point when rangefinder is not going to be engaged anyways? For some superwides then yes, but that would be it.

Just a dumb day in the office I guess. 🙃

Here’s one I’m considering since I have only one R lens that happens to be ver III 35mm Elmarit.

The Leica R >> M adapter allows you to use the non-rectilinear Leica R 15/2.8 (3.5) and 16/2.8 Elmarit-R lenses on the M.

The rangefinder coupling is redundant for such wide-angle lenses, which are also beyond pains to afford in the Leica M versions.

Lenses like the Summicron-R 35/2 are very beautiful and distinctive - in their own vintage class against the current clinical aspherical range of the M 35mm focal length lenses. It's not hard to focus these with an external rangefinder; and transfer to cine use as well.
