It was just argument that film photos can be enjoyed many ways not just optical prints.

He wasn't talking about enjoyment of them, though - he was tal;king about making the best possible print from a negative.

The truth is, that Leica is too expensive for the majority of people.

That's true if they also find a middle-of-the-road digital with a decent lens too expensive. People have no problem spending $1000 on a cell phone, for some reason - and find $500 for a Leica IIIa with an Elmar 50 too expensive.

Growing up in New Orleans and San Francisco, I just assumed this would be photos of naked photographers w/ Leica cameras. Thankfully........I was wrong.

There is a saying that a bad workman always blames his tools. But if you have the best tools, there is only yourself to blame.

The saying is all bunk. There are many things than cannot properly be fixed without the proper tools.

op should be banned for trying to have a fun thread.

This actually was a social experiment.

I have demonstrated that one can post literally anything on this site and it devolves into the same sad, bickering scenarios..

If I posted a thread titled, say, chocolate chip cookies - better with walnuts or pecans? By page two - same result.

Same people too. Especially one. Not sure why he hasn't been 86'd yet....

I'm not sure but if you 86'd everyone who disagreed you wouldn't even have a functioning forum any longer. And I am not saying that is true only about Photrio, I think that is true of most forums I visit. I think it is the nature of the beast. Some forums are a little less contentious, some a bit more, but they all have issues that trigger disagreement.

In this case I think it has more to do with the original subject. Around here it seems that the subject of Leica cameras riles some of our colleagues up, even though the initial post was actually making a bit of fun at the expense of Leica owners.

The amount of interest in this thread illustrates a certain level of boredom.

It was a funny video, the internet has probably amplified this behaviour, but I think all major purchases in life are followed by a degree of infatuation which comes across as needless boasting to others. I've seen it with houses, Apple computers, classic cars. It gives social identity and belonging.

A couple weeks ago I bought a Leica AF-C1 at a yard sale for $20. It works in daylight but the flash is dead so it won't fire in dim light. Oh, well. It looks nice.

But, am I hip now? Will the chicks flock to me? Have I joined the photo glitterati?

Or, is this just considered a pretender to the throne? A mere Minolta with a red dot?

I was disappointed by the lack of fashion tips to go with the camera/accessory/statement Leicas.

For that, Thorsten is your friend.

I didn't know what a Leica AF-C1 looked like, so I googled it. I see there is one on ebay for US $395.6. If I bought one at $20, I would sell it, even stating the flash is dead.

Yes, you may have something there. I don't think it would fetch $395, but I could probably get enough to buy something more to my liking.

I have a Leica AF-C1, and it actually is a very nice camera, just doesnt feel like a Leica.. Most probably because it is a Minolta that has been rebadged.
What do you mean it won't fire in dim light? The flash, or the camera itself i.e the shutter won't fire. If that's the case, then the camera is broken..

This camera actually makes me want to buy the Minolta version, and sell this one.

" Modern English usage guides have dropped the objections to it."

What about ending sentences with prepositions? By the way have you ever tired to split an infinite? It is not easy to.
