Care to post other common uses, or only the cherry-picked out-of-context ones that suit your point? Please don't tell me you've never heard of the phrase, to give someone grief. What you posted was an incomplete bite of the actual phrase I used. What I said was, "to give someone some harmless grief."

The phrase "to give someone grief" is far different than the noun "grief."

I am 20 percent jealous and 80 percent disgusted! I also had to look up the definition of 'hipster'. Not sure I care for the irreverent humor/slang associated with them and that my be part of your problem that you live within a group not in the mainstream. APUG appears to me to more mainstream, so learn and be done with it.

M7 a la carte Black Paint with .85 viewfinder, MP-style film advance, .85-4 framelines and no engraving. Took 5 weeks and 2 days.

I'm partial to LTM myself, but I played with an M7 once and it does have a real nifty viewfinder.

That being said, what is that in front of the shutter release?

IloveTLRs - the thing in front of the shutter release is a very handy on/off switch. No more frames accidentally knocked off in the bag

So far I'm still working on my first roll - Portra 400 - it has documented my step-daughter and her friends' head shaving to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Hope to finish up the roll soon and post some pics.

First impressions:

Shutter Speed Dial - I really like that it is 1. bigger than the MPs and 2. more easily reachable. With a bit of practice I can make this an aperture priority camera because dialing in the shutter speeds is fairly easy. Heaps easier than on an MP.

Shutter Release - Very nice. Seems to have a shorter throw than the MP, and for me that's a good thing. No spots of resistance and works like it should.

Feel - It's solid, heavier than an MP seems, but a heck of a lot lighter than a DSLR, and handling is great as well. There is also something about mounting a lens that just feels right. With some other cameras sometimes it isn't apparent it is mounted all the way. The Leicas just click into place. Big deal - maybe not - but it adds to my pleasure in using the system. And I think enjoyment contributes to my photographic output.

Final thought - it's a more capable camera than I am a capable photographer. But the amount of use I'll get out of it should change things in my favor

Thanks for sharing your experiences, that’s an interesting comparison to the MP. While I’ve never used a M7 I agree on the reachability” of the shutter speed dial on other M’s and at times the camera take a shutter priority tendency when quick exposure adjustments are required sometimes to the detriment of the aesthetics.

And certainly it’s a willing tool just begging to be used.

Though I do not share a desire or need for a M with AE - this all-mechanical preference does not hinder me from wishing you joy and interesting light while you use your new M7! It is one "hell of a camera!". I finally managed to get my hands on one awhile back, and I loved it. Also picked up a 35 2.5 Summarit for it. I then started thinking (foolishly) that I couldn't afford more "M" lenses for it, so I made the decision to part with it for a D700. The D700 is nice, but I've been kicking myself ever since. Working on getting another Leica, soon. Good luck with your's!

The M7 is about the price of the very cheapest new car in the UK. Nobody is criticising the thousands who buy a product that will be virtually worthless in 5 years time. Although I would never consider buying such a camera (or a cheap new car) there are many worse ways of blowing a few grand than on a precision camera.

Fortunately I don't suffer from camera envy, though I can get a little green eyed over a great photograph. Of course that picture could have been shot on a £7k camera a £7 camera.
