Why are all the M6's available for sale in Japan?
Maybe you're talking about eBay only. Look at US dealer sites and you'll find them for sale pretty regularly. Tamarkin has two for sale right now, for example. Why are all the M6's available for sale in Japan?
Its probably not a good idea to buy on ebay nowadays. Look for one in the forum or the facebook group. At
least you can ask the history of the camera and whether its been CLA etc....
They're disappearing rapidly from Tamarkin's site too. As are M3s, M4s,...2 M6s just sold in the last couple of days on FM. If you want one, you just gotta pay attention![]()

Because they swallowed the Kool- Aid and bought lots of them.
Understood, my point is that they are being snapped up as fast as they come up for sale. I thought that was your point tooYes, but in a week there are more for sale at other places..
This is like any product - people buy and sell.
It is very very good Kool-Aid.

I have three Leicas at the moment: IIIF, Ic, and M6. I've also owned an M3 and M4. Wish I still had all the lenses. Worth much more now than I paid for them.
Some miracle, 25 years back I found a M6ttl with Summicron 50, perfect condition black chrome. It was a consignment item, the salesman didn't care. I bought the camera, lens, original plastic box for $1300. That camera was. 0.72x and I needed money sold it still perfect, after I had owned it for 10 years, after Ebay, the camera store commission, I netted IIRC, something shy of 1800. I couldn't buy the lens for that today.I have a 111F, M3, M4 & M5. Also 2 LTM lenses and 11 M mount lenses. I would like to add a M6 but that has not been easy. The prices are way out of line as speculation has taken over this market. I have watched the various sources for a M6 and see prices higher than I am prepared to pay. Once the demand slows down I hope to find an example at a reasonable price.
To get to the crux of the matter, the Japanese sellers on eBay, for whatever reason, are in obvious collusion to manipulate photo gear prices, which is illegal. This is far too organized to think of as a coincidence, and this is the cause of the huge price increases we're seeing, which is not confined solely to M6 cameras.
Honestly, it may be that the only way to address this is to boycott these sellers because I'm not certain that private individuals who are selling used stuff can be charged w/ market manipulation. But if there's businesses involved, I think there's a clear path for prosecution and conviction. Sure, anyone can put any old price they want to on goods, but when they work together to manipulate the market, then it's an illegal activity, as it should be.
