I was loading film in my Leica M6 and this piece of plastic hit the floor.

I cannot figure out where it came from.

Anybody know what this mystery part is and where it goes?

It goes on the end of the top plate to protect it from wear due to the carrying strap. There should be one each end. I have no idea how they are attached. Glue?

Yep, original M6 and M6ttl had the little bumpers. New M6 doesn't so consider it as an upgrade. 😊

Now you'll have a light leak.

It was held in place by the two plastic pins. When they broke loose, it leaves two holes in the edge of the top plate. You can cover them with some gaffers tape until you can get it fixed.

Mine doesn't (SN166XXXX). Then I guess only the very early Wetzlar ones don't have the bumpers.

You could probably get $400 US for that on Ebay. Leica has a group of German monks that do nothing but make plastic lens caps that retail for $55! 😊
