Leica M2 rangefinder - vertical adjustment

I trried to adjust the vertical alignment of rangefinder on my Leica M2. I managed to fix my issue but to my surprise I also changed the horizontal adjustment - a lot. Is this normal? I was under the impression that vertical adjustment would not affect the horizontal adjustment but clearly it did. Atleast on my camera.

This thread is years old but I'd like to share that I just adjusted corrected the vertical alignment on a Leica M3 myself. The horizontal alignment did not change.

It turns out the horizontal alignment was off by a very small but noticeable amount and infinity. I am uncertain if this difference existed before or after the vertical alignment because I didn't have a distant enough reference point available. I adjusted that too and shot some test rolls.

Yep! I had to wait a couple weeks for clear skies.
