The selector lever on my M5 shows all frame line options depending whether the lever is pushed left or right. However between the one o'clock and two o'clock positions the lever just waggles, it doesn't do anything and there's no resistance. Is this normal for a Leica M?

It's only loose with a lens fitted, with the lens removed there's little loose movement between left and right.

There's something awry in there by golly. Haven't had one apart since before dirt was invented but sure don't remember any wagglin'.

Hmm.. I'm minded to think it's something to do with an LTM to M adapter being fitted, as there's no waggle with the lens off. The framelines show correctly, and the lever isn't sloppy vertically (i.e. loosely fitted) so I may leave things be.

That sounds logical to me, I guess just a tiny bit out of tolerance would do it.

You could try another 5cm lens in a Leica dealers.
If the 5cm frame shows on mounting the ring Id not worry.
I've had problems with new Leica lenses on M2s and a M5 so a 3rd party ring may be worse.
