I just bought the Elmar-C 90mm f/4 on another forum. The seller tells me the filter size is 5.5 and that I can buy a 5.5-39mm adapter to attach a filter.

Did this lens come with a retaining ring for this 5.5 drop in filter? If so who sells the ring?

I’m trying to keep this lens as compact and simple as possible.

Thanks for any help anyone has.

My lens arrived today as did the series 5.5 retaining ring and a 39mm filter.
Both the retaining ring and filter work fine on the lens.

I also have a new-to-me elmar-c 90, with the rubber hood. Will I be able to use 39mm filters on this lens with the 11251 series 5.5 retaining ring described above? How? I have a bunch oh 39mm filters and I certainly would like to use at least an orange and a red filter with this lens.

I cannot put filters on top of my Series 5.5 retaining ring. You probably do not need the retaining ring as 39mm filter seems fine on my lens.

That's right....the 5.5 filters have no threads and are slightly smaller.....you place them on the lens and then the 'retaining' ring screws into the lens keeping the filter in place.....

Here is my lens setup, excuse the dust on the lens body

Ok, thanks, I understand now. The filter size of the lens is 39mm, but the pitch is .75 (not the standard one, which is .5). With care, I can partially screw a 39mm .5 filter on the lens and partially screw the hood on the filter. It is a solution.

Does anyone know if there exists an adapter from 39mm .75 to 39mm .5.

why not just buy a 5.5 orange filter?
The rubber lens hood fits on the lens. the series filter & retaining ring fit inside the hood. You'd need the S 5.5 to E39 adapter which can be found on ebay
