Dang it, Colin. I now see years of third generation photo-frustration-therapy in my son's future...

To focus a Leica without even looking through the viewfinder is possible with certain lenses. You don't need your hip boots for that!

Apples and road apples. Using the hyperfocus range is not as sharp as focusing with a split image on a RF or either manual or auto focus on an SLR. Yes you can get away with using the hyperfocus range, I know I did when I had a 35mm camera without a range finder, but it is based on a guess rather than a measurement. Using your logic a Holga would be faster to use than a Leica. I do not see threads about an inimate shut down of Holga production, do you?

I'm in the same boat, a used Leica is what's realistic for me .... unless I win a lottery or something.

However, part of me still thinks this is a shrewd bit of marketing on the part of Leica, to generate some buzz and talk about their film products.

Here is another link. I always thought that the Leica camera's are very beautiful. When Camera West was in Monterey Ca I used to always go look over the Leica stuff in there. It was fun but I shoot Nikon camera's. Some folks say the Nikon F6 is discontinued and some say it's not. Nikon does not say at all. However you can buy a new one.

My sources say Leica has diverted most of its production capability to making M9s, lenses and analogue cameras taking a back seat.

If you want a bespoke analogue or low volume lens in black or chrome shop around or there is a queue.

I just want a 50 1.4 Asph which it seems is an impossible task.
